Dave & Denise

We have been together since 2009, and have been sailing together for about as long. We bought our first liveaboard sailboat in 2011 and De Novo in 2016. At the time of writing this, in early 2022, we've sailed throughout Washington State, British Columbia, and SE Alaska together. We've learned so much in those years up north, and now we're looking forward to learning more as we head south! 

When we aren't sailing, we're working on boat projects, thinking about boat projects, and occasionally maintaining hobbies that don't involve boat projects (hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc.).

If we're in the same harbor (or even if we're not), come say hi! 


Uma

We also have a rad boat cat, Uma. As ocean passages are a little much for her, and as several countries don't allow cats to easily enter by sea, she's staying home with my (Denise's) mom. Thanks, Mom! You can read her adorable blog here. Her blog is much more entertaining than ours, so we'll totally understand if you stay there.

El Faro, Mazatlán Hello dear friends and family, We’re currently in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, one of our new favorite towns, situated on the northern shore of Bahía de Banderas. We’ve quietly settled into life here as we await our big voyage next month: the passage across the Pacific Ocean. Oh boy, it feels good to say those words! Landfall in California!

Sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge Hello everyone, Life is good aboard De Novo. The "Big Left Turn" at Juan de Fuca Strait finally happened, and after years of anticipation and hard work, we're celebrating.  The Oregon and Washington coasts can provide extraordinarily challenging conditions; in fact, several cruisers who've crossed the Pacific warned us this leg would be among the hardest. The horror stories are out there: boats lose their steering; sails rip; sailors grow seasick and weak. So naturally, we were nervous. But with nerves comes preparation. Lots of preparation. Oh lordy did we prepare. Or in Brian and Lauren's words on SV Griffin, we "frontloaded the hard." Because honestly, this leg felt good. The Simple Life

Quick Notes: We ended our Predictwind subscription in early February. Since then, we’ve used a Garmin InReach tracker. Please see “Follow our Boat” in the menu to see our track.  We just put our boat into storage for the summer in San Carlos and flew back to Washington for time with loved ones, work, and PNW adventures. We'll back back to Mexico to plan our next passage after the hurricane season.  This post covers our time in Baja from our last post in February to our arrival in San Carlos in mid-May.       Playa Coyote in Bahía Concepción The Simple Life It's hard to reflect on our adventure while we're living it.
